Our client, a global healthcare leader, is seeking a qualified and motivated Senior Scientist on an initial 18-month contract. You will join a dynamic R&D team in Galway developing novel assays. As a Senior Scientist, you will independently manage complex, long-duration projects, product improvements, and investigations. You should have expertise in molecular biology and protein chemistry techniques for protein expression and assay development.

Responsibilities (Full job description available on request):

  • Manage cross-functional stakeholders to ensure R&D project alignment and compliance with target product profiles.

  • Apply advanced scientific knowledge to conceive, design, plan, and coordinate independent and collaborative studies required for product development.

  • Optimise assay conditions, improve product design, troubleshoot technical issues, and adhere to design control procedures.

  • Maintain professional expertise by staying current with scientific literature and technologies.

  • Provide technical leadership and direction to the R&D organisation, supporting the development of lateral flow and in vitro diagnostic devices.

  • Train and coach lower-level scientists, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines and quality standards.

  • Support external audits and certification activities, including audit preparation and response.

Ideal background:

  • 10+ years of experience in in vitro diagnostics/assay development and biologics, with a strong background in molecular and biochemical techniques.

  • Minimum education: Ph.D. with 5 years of research experience or B.S./M.S. with 10 years of industrial experience. Excellent problem-solving skills, utilizing industry-accepted concepts and tools.

  • Proficiency in optimising assay design and conditions, including DOE optimisation.

  • Expertise in designing and optimising serological diagnostic tests.

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and statistical analysis skills.

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and guidelines in the diagnostics industry is desirable.

  • Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and collaborate with external partners.

  • Demonstrates integrity and acts in line with clear values and beliefs.
