Life in Eindhoven
Eindhoven, situated in the province of North Brabant in the south of the Netherlands, is the 5th largest city in the country. Nowadays it’s called the Silicon Valley of Europe, because of all the high-tech industry. Of the 230,000 people living in Eindhoven, an amazing 36% of these are expats from outside of the Netherlands – leading to a diverse, multicultural community!
Eindhoven is well-served by public transport and other cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and even Brussels in Belgium and Cologne and Dusseldorf in Germany are all less than 2 hours away. This makes Eindhoven the perfect central point to explore Northwestern Europe from!
Other Irish Engineers who have made the move
Over the past number of years, Collins McNicholas has helped many Irish Engineers move to Eindhoven and they have received a warm welcome. While many loved settling in to the Dutch culture, many more joined local GAA club Eindhoven Shamrocks!
Read more about the experience of one Irish expat who lived in Eindhoven here. The engineers we have placed in Eindhoven have received relocation support and are integrated into the community. As well as expat events and social nights, the Irish Engineers also have the option of taking free dutch classes!”
Eindhoven Shamrocks GAA
Founded in 2013, Eindhoven Shamrocks are one of five GAA clubs in the Netherlands. As well as competing in Gaelic tournaments across the Benelux countries and mainland Europe, the club also organises social events such as Quiz Nights in the local bars and pubs, as well as pther fundraisers and trips. This unique piece of Irish culture in the Netherlands has attracted talent from all over the world and introduced them to GAA. Find the club on Facebook here.
I would like to thank Collins McNicholas for your help and support during the application and interview process.
The recruitment process is very well organised. For me personally, looking for job opportunities during my final months in college was extra stressful. This is where your swift and clear communication helped a lot.
Thanks for all the material I received from you prior to the interviews. I felt much more confident going into my interviews which allowed me to get the necessary information across to the interviewer and strongly increased my chances of making a good first impression. I would feel this is a key help aspect in which the agency is very successful.
Regarding the interview process itself, for me personally, it was one of the best interview experiences so far. It was very straight forward and on point, with a very individual approach rather than a standard set of questions as often happens.
My relocation to the Netherlands went very smooth. I came over with a group of 4 other Irish lads. We were guided through the first week, helped with housing, banking and all other necessary formalities. The support was unbeatable.
I was placed as a Test Engineer with ASML in Eindhoven. I am very impressed with the company – it is highly advanced and so well managed and organised. My role as Test Engineer requires a lot of the skills I developed during my college years which was something I was really looking forward to, to be able to use the skillset gained and at the same time further improve and learn. The company has a fantastic approach to their staff making them feel valuable and important which is an aspect I am highly positive about. There are also some fantastic career progression opportunities with the company.
I would highly advise engineering graduates to move to and work in the Netherlands. I feel that it is a great place to start your career. The social aspect is fantastic, I’ve been making new friends almost every single day since coming here which in addition to having a great job really makes the stay here a real pleasure.
