Renewable Energy Planning & Development Manager

Our client has a new opening for an experienced Renewable Energy Planning & Development Manager to lead the planning and development of large-scale renewable energy projects. The successful candidate will have a strong background in planning applications, project delivery, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning process to obtain consents for large-scale renewable energy projects.

  • Coordinate and manage external consultants to prepare specialist studies for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), EIA screening, Ecological Impact Assessment, and other assessments required as part of the planning application process.

  • Prepare planning application documents and associated submissions.

  • Work closely with project design teams to identify and mitigate potential planning or permitting issues throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Support environmental consent applications, including Industrial Emissions/PPC licences and other permits required for project development.

  • Engage with relevant stakeholders including regulatory authorities, statutory bodies, landowners, neighbouring residents, utilities, and other public bodies.

  • Plan and execute public consultation events and activities.

  • Prepare for planning appeals or inquiries and provide expert witness testimony where required.

  • Manage pre-construction planning and environmental compliance, including the discharge of planning conditions.

  • Assist in scoping and developing strategic project opportunities.

  • Support market analysis to monitor sector developments and identify potential project or acquisition opportunities.

  • Conduct site selection assessments and planning/environmental due diligence studies for potential development sites.

  • Stay updated on policy, legislation, and planning outcomes relevant to renewable energy projects.

  • Contribute to policy review and lobbying activities as required.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed specifications.

  • Provide regular reporting to senior management on project progress and risks.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree (NFQ Level 8) in Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or equivalent.

  • Postgraduate qualification (NFQ Level 9) in a relevant discipline is desirable but not essential.

  • Minimum of 8-10 years relevant experience, with proven expertise in project management, planning applications, EIAR, AA, and environmental permit applications for large-scale projects, preferably in the renewable energy sector.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, codes, and regulatory standards.

  • Experience liaising with regulators, statutory bodies, and the public.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrable understanding of successful project delivery within time and budget constraints.

  • Ideally based in Dublin, but flexible.
