We are partnering with a Galway based client who are looking to hire a Head of Engineering to join their team. The Head of Engineering is responsible for leading all engineering, maintenance, utilities, facilities and capital project activities on site. The role ensures a safe, reliable and GMP-compliant manufacturing environment while driving equipment performance, site improvements, and long-term engineering excellence.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the site engineering and technical services strategy.
  • Manage teams across maintenance, utilities, calibration, projects, facilities, and automation.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all systems and equipment meet GMP and regulatory standards.
  • Support regulatory inspections and maintain engineering procedures.
  • Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Drive improvements in OEE and equipment performance.
  • Lead the CAPEX portfolio, including major site expansion projects.
  • Manage design, construction, commissioning, qualification, and handover activities.
  • Manage budgets and oversee contractors, vendors, and external partners.
  • Oversee facilities, utilities, cleanrooms, buildings, and grounds.
  • Support sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives.
  • Lead automation and digitalisation efforts, including MES and data integrity.
  • Ensure cybersecurity across control systems and automation platforms.
  • Manage engineering budgets, KPIs, and team performance.
  • Develop and grow engineering talent and succession plans.

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree in Engineering.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in GMP or regulated manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of EU GMP and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience in maintenance strategy and CAPEX project management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead change and make data-driven decisions.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree or Chartered Engineer status.
  • Experience with Lean, TPM, or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Exposure to automation, controls, or digital transformation projects.
