Our client, a leading medical device company, is seeking to recruit a Senior R&D Engineer to join their team in Galway on a permanent contract.
Job Purpose:
As a Senior R&D Engineer, you will be responsible for providing electrical and electronic engineering support and expertise in the definition, design, development and testing of medical device products.

- Design, develop, test, and improve electrical circuits and systems for therapeutic ablation catheters and consoles.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of electronic test failures, providing solutions at both component and system level.
- Drive prototype development of catheters and console interfaces from concept to launch, working closely with cross-functional teams.
- Research, evaluate, and select circuits, components, and tools to support advanced therapy device design.
- Prepare documentation including protocols, technical reports, change requests, and design history files in line with quality standards.
- Translate clinical needs into innovative engineering solutions, identifying opportunities for product improvement and IP generation.
- Present technical updates, risks, and milestones to project leaders and senior stakeholders.
- Maintain a strong focus on patient safety and product quality by adhering to all quality policies and procedures.
- Ensure proper resources (people, tools, and processes) are in place to support Quality System compliance.
Requirements:
- Level 8 Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in medical devices or other highly regulated industries, preferably with catheter-based or implantable systems.
- Hands-on expertise in circuit/system design, system troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- Proven experience with regulatory/safety standards (IEC60601 series, EMC).
- Strong communication, documentation, and project management skills.
