Our client a global healthcare technology organisation is seeking a Principal AI Data Scientist to drive cutting-edge innovation across generative AI, agentic systems, and natural language understanding.

 The Role

As a senior technical leader and hands-on innovator, you will design and deliver advanced AI models and architectures that power intelligent healthcare applications. You will work at the intersection of research and real-world deployment, ensuring solutions are reliable, explainable, and compliant within regulated healthcare environments.

This position offers strong technical ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to influence enterprise AI strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Innovation & Advanced AI Research

  • Design and prototype next-generation AI models for autonomous and agent-based healthcare systems
  • Advance natural language understanding across clinical, operational, and administrative datasets
  • Explore new approaches in reasoning, decision intelligence, and multimodal AI
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and integrate state-of-the-art methods into scalable solutions

Applied AI Development (Healthcare Focus)

  • Fine-tune and optimise large language models for healthcare terminology, compliance, and ethical use
  • Build AI pipelines to process structured and unstructured healthcare data (FHIR, HL7, clinical notes, claims)
  • Develop domain-specific AI architectures supporting clinical decision-making, revenue cycle optimisation, and patient engagement
  • Ensure all models are explainable, responsible, and aligned with healthcare standards and regulations

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for generative, agentic, and applied AI across projects
  • Mentor and support AI scientists and engineers through code reviews, research guidance, and technical workshops
  • Drive internal knowledge-sharing on emerging AI frameworks, tools, and best practices
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to transition research innovations into production-ready systems

AI Governance, Quality & Deployment

  • Establish robust model evaluation frameworks for accuracy, fairness, reliability, and performance
  • Ensure adherence to healthcare data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements
  • Support secure, scalable deployment of AI solutions within cloud and production environments

Required Experience & Skills

  • MSc or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or related discipline
  • 5+ years’ experience delivering AI/ML solutions in production environments
  • Strong programming skills in Python (R beneficial)
  • Expertise in Generative AI, LLMs, and transformer architectures
  • Hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, LangChain, and RAG systems
  • Experience with autonomous/agentic AI systems and reasoning frameworks
  • Proven application of AI within healthcare or life sciences
  • Familiarity with AWS/cloud platforms and MLOps practices
