Lead R&D Engineer

We are partnering with a Medical Device client in Mayo to support them with hiring an experienced Lead R&D Engineer to drive the development of new product concepts and technologies. The role involves leading or supporting cross-functional projects, developing prototypes and collaborating with teams across the organisation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Translate clinical needs into device concepts and prototypes, ensuring compliance with human factors and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and integrate new technologies to expand the product portfolio.
  • Provide technical support to NPD, Marketing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional development projects and manage project timelines.
  • Conduct product and project risk analyses and ensure timely project delivery.
  • Prepare financial justifications and communicate findings effectively.
  • Review vendor offerings and assess suitability.
  • Source, select, and evaluate materials and components.
  • Evaluate performance and stability of new technologies and support future product introductions.
  • Conduct trials for new technologies.
  • Collaborate with patent counsel on patentability assessments and applications.

Experience

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience, ideally in medical devices.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field (required).
  • Master’s or PhD (preferred).
  • Project management experience (preferred).

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong innovation and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working with clinical professionals and translating feedback into product concepts.
  • Knowledge of human factors integration in early-stage development.
  • Experience with product design and prototype development.
  • SolidWorks/3D modelling experience (preferred).
