We are partnering with a Medical Device client in Mayo to support them with hiring an experienced Lead R&D Engineer to drive the development of new product concepts and technologies. The role involves leading or supporting cross-functional projects, developing prototypes and collaborating with teams across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate clinical needs into device concepts and prototypes, ensuring compliance with human factors and regulatory requirements.
- Research and integrate new technologies to expand the product portfolio.
- Provide technical support to NPD, Marketing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
- Lead or contribute to cross-functional development projects and manage project timelines.
- Conduct product and project risk analyses and ensure timely project delivery.
- Prepare financial justifications and communicate findings effectively.
- Review vendor offerings and assess suitability.
- Source, select, and evaluate materials and components.
- Evaluate performance and stability of new technologies and support future product introductions.
- Conduct trials for new technologies.
- Collaborate with patent counsel on patentability assessments and applications.
Experience
- 8+ years of relevant industry experience, ideally in medical devices.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field (required).
- Master’s or PhD (preferred).
- Project management experience (preferred).
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong innovation and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working with clinical professionals and translating feedback into product concepts.
- Knowledge of human factors integration in early-stage development.
- Experience with product design and prototype development.
- SolidWorks/3D modelling experience (preferred).
