Health and Safety Manager
As a Health and Safety Manager, you will be overseeing the development, execution, and ongoing enhancement of the organization's health and safety management system across all operations. This is a full-time permanent position in Cork with a chemical manufacturing company.
Overview of Main Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems tailored to the specific needs of a manufacturing environment.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable Health and Safety Authority (HSA) regulations and standards.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to mitigate risks and minimize environmental impacts.
- Lead and coordinate risk assessments, process safety evaluations, and hazard identification initiatives across all areas of the business.
- Manage internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance monitoring programmes, including the development and rollout of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Oversee health and safety compliance across all company locations, including both in-house operations and outsourced sites.
- Lead thorough investigations into incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring root causes are identified and effective corrective actions are implemented.
- Provide expert support, coaching, and training to leadership and frontline teams on all aspects of health and safety.
- Act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, external auditors, and third-party stakeholders on health and safety matters.
- Plan and execute strategic health and safety improvement projects to drive long-term risk reduction and operational excellence.
What the ideal Health and Safety Manager looks like:
- Degree level in Health & Safety & Welfare at Work and previous experience in a compliance capacity a distinct advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of HSA, safety, chemical and process safety legislation and standards.
- 5+ yrs of experience in a health and safety management role preferably within chemical manufacturing or process industries.
- Previous experience delivering ISO 45001 & 14001 essential.
- Demonstrated experience in risk management, process safety, and incident investigation methodologies.
- Strong IT Skills with a working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, with proficiency of creating pivot tables, formulas, etc in MS Excel and Company databases.
