Financial Controller

An established manufacturing business based on the East side of Cork city, are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Financial Controller to lead its finance function and play a key role in driving performance across the organisation. This is a key appointment offering significant influence, autonomy, and the opportunity to contribute to the leadership team. Fully onsite position.

The Role

Reporting to senior management, the successful candidate will take full responsibility for financial reporting, control, and commercial finance activities, including:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and capital expenditure budgeting.
  • Detailed costing (including customer pricelist calculations), product margin analysis, and enhancement of margin performance.
  • Cashflow oversight and day-to-day cash management.
  • Compliance with accounting standards, taxation requirements, and internal control frameworks.
  • Responsibility for perpetual stock systems and related financial integrity.
  • Delivering timely, accurate management information on product performance, revenue, costs, and stock to support strategic decisions.
  • Backup for preparation of weekly/monthly payroll.
  • Preparation of other reports including commission calculations.

Leadership & Operational Oversight

  • Management of office-based teams including Accounts, Purchasing, HR (payroll), and Administration.
  • Providing strong leadership, structure, and accountability to ensure a high-performing administrative function.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing direct reports to improve capability and efficiency.
  • Ensuring high standards of internal controls relevant to financial reporting, stock, and purchasing processes.

Commercial & Strategic Contribution

  • Playing an active role in improving margins and strengthening commercial performance.
  • Supporting decision-making across the organisation through clear presentation of financials.
  • Creating competitive advantage through better management information, cost insights, and product analysis.
  • Collaborating with the systems administrator to ensure financial data outputs remain accurate, timely, and aligned to the needs of the business.
  • Review of various annual insurance policies.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a confident, proactive, and commercially minded finance professional who brings both technical excellence and strong leadership skills.

Essential

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Minimum 5 years operating at senior accountant, management accountant, or finance manager level.
  • Strong analytical skills with hands-on experience in costing, margin analysis, and financial control.
  • Proven ability to manage, coach, and influence a diverse team.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge, lead, and bring structure where needed.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and drive initiatives without close supervision.
  • Strong IT skills and experience with financial/ERP systems (Intact IQ a distinct advantage).
  • Ambition to contribute at leadership level as the business continues to develop.
