Financial Controller

Our client is a well-established and highly respected construction company in Ireland, known for delivering quality projects. Following continued growth and recent expansion into the UK market, they are seeking an ambitious and commercially experienced Financial Controller (or CFO) to lead their finance function and play a key role in shaping the company’s strategic future.

The role:

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will oversee all financial operations, ensuring robust financial management, strategic insight, and operational efficiency across the business.

This is a hands-on, senior leadership role suited to an experienced finance professional with strong commercial acumen and a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the company’s daily and annual financial performance, ensuring accuracy and integrity in all reporting.
  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls, driving efficiency, accountability, and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Manage cash flow and working capital to support both operational delivery and strategic growth.
  • Monitor the performance of all projects and departments promoting continuous improvement and profitability.
  • Lead strategic reviews, long-term financial planning, and evaluation of potential growth or market opportunities.
  • Optimise accounting systems and reporting tools, ensuring data-driven decision making.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director, providing commercial insights, financial analysis, and recommendations to support key decisions.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) with a minimum of 5–10 years’ experience in a senior finance role.
  • Construction industry experience essential or strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Irish Revenue compliance — RCT, VAT returns, PAYE, and Intrastat.
  • Experience with UK operations and HMRC processes is a distinct advantage.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop finance teams
