We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Advocacy and Public Engagement Lead to join a well-known not-for-profit organisation based in Cork. Reporting to Client Services, you will undertake responsibility for the development of advocacy, advice, and information appropriate to visually impaired clients and families of children with autism. You will connect with corporate organisations and provide education/awareness on clients’ rights and entitlements.

This is initially a 12-month contract and can be worked on a part-time or full-time basis for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Advocacy Support: Provide one-to-one and group advocacy for clients, ensuring their voices are heard and rights upheld.
  • Build Strategic Partnerships: Establish and maintain relationships with key sector organisations to strengthen collaborative advocacy efforts.
  • Represent the Organisation: Act as a spokesperson and represent the charity regionally and nationally to raise awareness of advocacy entitlements and client issues.
  • Engage with Policy and Government: Advocate to public bodies on policies, planning, and legislation, and support policy agenda through coordination of expert discussions and workshops.
  • Develop Training and Resources: Create and deliver advocacy training and informational materials for clients and external partners.
  • Lead Research and Analysis: Conduct research and prepare position papers on advocacy priorities in consultation with clients and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and Report Activities: Compile regular reports on advocacy activities, issues, and outcomes, while supporting subcommittee operations and follow-ups.
  • Support Communications: Assist with client communications, social media updates, and stakeholder engagement under the guidance of the Communications team.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in advocacy, particularly within the non-profit sector, supported by a relevant degree and at least three years’ work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including experience in writing articles, position papers, and conducting media interviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement communication plans, manage multiple projects, and consistently meet or exceed performance goals.
  • Skilled in working both independently and collaboratively with clients, stakeholders, and team members to achieve results.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and multitasking skills across concurrent initiatives.
  • Clean driving licence.
