For our North West Relocation Survey, we talked to Niamh Parkinson who relocated to Carrick-On-Shannon in Co. Leitrim where she secured a role with Avantcard as Digital Customer Journey Manager.

“Since we moved to Carrick, the people have been so welcoming and friendly; everyone takes the time to chat. It’s a lovely feeling to be part of the community.

Generally, I’ve been a lot healthier – both mentally and physically – since moving to Leitrim and that’s because I have a lot more downtime now.

Niamh Parkinson - Avantcard - North West Relocation

I am originally from Dublin and was working in the city but living in Mullingar, as finding a house there was much easier and cheaper. But the three-hour commute to-and-fro for work took its toll on me.

When my job was made redundant in February 2018, I saw it as an opportunity to get away from the hecticness of Dublin and moved to Carrick in July.

My partner and I found a great place to live on the outskirts of the town; it has everything we need nearby, but has a lovely country feel to it and the rent is much cheaper than Mullingar.

When we first moved, I joined the ‘Leitrim Jobs Club’ to make friends and network. It was the best thing I could have done as I got great advice for interviews and CV layout.

In October, I was offered a job with Avantcard. It’s a wonderful place to work; people really make the effort to get to know you. There are some great extracurricular activities as well. I’m part of the choir and over Christmas we went singing in a local daycare centre, it was such a great experience.

Since moving to Carrick, we are all – including the dog – much happier!”
