We are excited to be partnering with a growing Medical Device client in Galway who are looking to hire an R&D Engineer with a Mechanical Engineering background to join their team.
The R&D Engineer II will contribute to product development through concept generation, design, prototyping, testing, documentation and lifecycle support. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, external partners, and physicians to deliver innovative, high-quality medical devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate device concepts to meet performance requirements.
- Build and test prototypes; analyze data and resolve technical challenges.
- Create detailed component and assembly drawings/specifications using Autodesk Fusion.
- Select materials, assembly methods, and define process parameters.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers for system integration.
- Partner with vendors and external resources to achieve project objectives.
- Prepare procedures, protocols, reports, and technical documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of design iterations, test results, and project progress.
- Support development of physician training materials.
- Research new technologies, materials, and methods to drive innovation.
- Apply engineering principles and simulation tools to optimize designs.
- Ensure compliance with quality management system requirements.
Requirements
- Honours degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in medical device design and development, including SolidWorks, prototyping, and testing.
