Health and Safety Officer

The Job:


We are currently working with a leading manufacturing company in Cavan to hire a Health and Safety Officer to join their team.  This dynamic role involves working across the entire organization and managing the day-to-day operations of a busy manufacturing plant. The successful candidate will provide administrative, audit, and practical support to the Health & Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with ISO 45001, 9001, 14001, 17025, and 50001 standards. The role is designed to drive compliance and continuous improvement in health and safety.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Safety Promotion: Maintain records, share results, and ensure safety has a visible and tangible presence in the workplace through training, promotions, toolbox talks, and audits. Liaise with consultants and occupational health as required.
  • Fire Safety: Conduct risk assessments with fire consultants, liaise on equipment and replacement, and recommend internal resources and training.
  • New Products/Processes: Recommend and trial new PPE, assess MSDS, and evaluate new work procedures or machinery.
  • First Aid/Spills: Assess equipment and systems to ensure suitable training, equipment, and processes.
  • Risk Assessments: Perform risk assessments, reviews, and updates in line with legislation or new data. Review procedures, queries, and practices, recommend measures and solutions, and track recommendations from risk assessments and reviews. Liaise with consultants and occupational health as required.
  • Safety Committee: Organize and facilitate safety committee meetings, maintain regular communication and consultation with representatives, and follow up on issues arising.
  • Accident Investigation: Conduct root cause investigations, implement corrective and preventative actions, and identify training opportunities.
  • Systems Management: Perform auditing and ensure compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and Q-Pulse standards.
  • Legislation Compliance: Ensure all personnel understand their responsibilities, review new legislation, and assess compliance and actions arising.

Requirements:

  • Education: Level 7/Level 8 Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or Engineering with additional training/experience in Occupational Health and Safety Management.
  • Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems.
  • Organized: Detail-oriented and capable of managing both factory and office environments.
  • Communicative: High-level communication and observational skills.
  • Collaborative: Effective problem solver and reliable team player.
  • Proactive: Ability to drive continuous improvement and take initiative.
  • Relationship Builder: Competent communicator and keen relationship builder across various stakeholders
