Job Description - Facilities & Equipment Engineer

We are seeking a hands-on and proactive Facilities & Equipment Engineer to support the maintenance and operational reliability of a busy plastics recycling facility. This role involves a mix of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, facilities upkeep, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a multi-skilled technician with experience in manufacturing or processing environments, capable of working both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative maintenance across production equipment and facility systems.
  • Respond to breakdowns and faults with a focus on quick diagnosis and repair.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling maintenance tasks in coordination with the Engineering Manager.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work and service histories.
  • Perform general building maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
  • Support production teams during equipment start-ups and changeovers.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, lean initiatives, and 5S practices.
  • Liaise with contractors and vendors for servicing, repairs, and installations.
  • Assist in managing spares inventory and procurement of maintenance materials.
  • Develop and share troubleshooting guides and standard work procedures.

Job Requirements

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or process environment.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical maintenance background.
  • Recognised qualification in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • Proven ability to work across multi-trade maintenance tasks.
  • Familiar with preventative maintenance systems and scheduling.
  • Comfortable using CMMS or digital maintenance tracking tools.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles, including 5S.
  • Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork capabilities.
