Why relocate to Offaly?

Offaly is one of Ireland’s most famous counties. Located in Ireland’s Midlands it is almost equidistant to the cities of Dublin, Waterford, Limerick and Galway, and offers a slower pace of life and lower cost of living.

The River Shannon, Ireland’s longest river, flows on its border and divides the west and east of Ireland, while the roots of Clonmacnoise date back to 544. The county is steeped in Irish history and nicknamed ‘The Faithful County’, and is also the home of former US President Barack Obama’s ancestors. If it’s good enough for the Obamas, it must be good enough for you!

55.4% of people in the county travel to work in less than 30 minutes while the majority of those with longer commute times work in Dublin. Local business in the area is booming and the county has seen the arrival of some major multinationals to the area, too. There are many local festivals and a tight community feel to the county.

Business Environment

As part of the Midlands, Offaly is a popular destination for many organisations. It is located perfectly between The Republic of Ireland’s major cities (Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford) giving it access to several airports and ports. There are also up to 8 third-level institutions within a 90 minute drive that create a talented workforce.

In terms of well-known companies in the county, Integra Life Sciences, Glenisk, and Tullamore Dew are examples of the brands that attract people from around Ireland to work with them. IDA Ireland founded the Tullamore Business and Technology Park here which is home to dozens of multinational companies.

Other companies in the area that we work with include Kelpac Medical and Thrace Synthetic Packaging, both of whom are highly regarded employers with impressive operations.

Family Life

Offaly is a brilliant place to raise a family. Life is slower and quieter than in Ireland’s cities but it offers you more free time at a lower cost of living. Towns such as Tullamore, Birr or Clara are lively in their own way and are home to dozens of local businesses.

If sports are your thing then Offaly is steeped in history. Offaly GAA field hurling and football teams, while there are also local rugby, basketball, athletics and soccer clubs. No matter what town you live in there will be a local sports team.

Historical sites such as Clonmacnoise, which was proposed as a world heritage site, or Birr Castle are perfect for family walks at the weekend, while there are also plenty of forests and bogs if you fancy a more active walk!
