Hardware Design Engineer

We have an exciting Hardware Design Engineer role within a fast paced and high-impact R&D Department with our client, a leading indigenous electronics company based in Shannon.. With over 30 years of success driven by a culture of Quality, Service, and Product Innovation, our client is at the forefront of emerging Cloud-based and IoT developments. This is a full-time, permanent position and is based fully on-site in Shannon.


Key Responsibilities

  • Designing hardware architecture and board-level design for new fire and gas detection products and Gateway systems.
  • Sourcing, evaluating, and selecting components to ensure a secure supply chain.
  • Designing low-power circuits, DC/DC converters, power management methods, and analogue/mixed-signal board-level design.
  • Implementing processor architecture, digital circuit design, and embedded systems.
  • Working with various communication protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, USB.
  • Familiarity with RF technology, including antenna design, impedance matching, and performance tuning of RF circuits across different frequencies.
  • Integrating RF technologies such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, WiFi, and Bluetooth.
  • Leading and driving design development from schematic capture to PCB layout, assembly, and test house validation.
  • Ensuring robust designs for ESD/EMI immunities and RF de-sensitization.
  • Partnering with software teams to define and implement firmware, drivers, and algorithms.
  • Acting as an interface between R&D and Supply Chain to manage components' obsolescence and alternatives.
  • Preparation of all Board Assembly files and Drawings for prototypes build and new product release.

Key Requirements

  • Hold an honours degree or postgraduate qualification in Electronic Engineering.
  • Have 6+ years of experience in consumer product design, including circuit design, component engineering, integration, embedded systems, and debugging.
  • Possess strong leadership skills and effective communication abilities across multiple disciplines.
  • Demonstrate autonomy in work operation and excellent communication/documentation skills.
  • Understand manufacturing processes, including DFM and DFT for consumer products.
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer Suite will be advantageous.
