Mark Whelan – “It’s easy to raise children here as well with the availability and cost of childcare as well as having plenty of places to go on the weekends with the kids…”
When Mark first picked up the phone to call Collins McNicholas he wanted them to help him find a job but he ended up working for the company instead. Five years later, he’s a Senior Consultant and delighted that he made the move to Sligo.
“My wife works as a teacher in Roscommon. I was living and working in Dublin but when we started thinking about moving in together it made more sense for me to move than her,” explains Mark.
“I was traveling down to Roscommon and Sligo for weekends over a number of years. I always liked the pace of life, the parks, golf courses and of course the beaches. We’re based half an hour from Sligo, so I decided that was the best place to look for work.”
“The first place I contacted in Sligo was Collins McNicholas as I thought they could help me find a job. It turned out they had a position open themselves that suited me. I went through the interview process and was offered the job.”
Mark’s role with the company is multi-faceted and he enjoys every minute.
“I’m a senior consultant working on mainly technical and engineering roles with clients in the pharma and med device industries. My days mostly involve finding out what exactly our clients are looking for in a candidate and helping them with their recruitment needs.”
The slower pace of life in the North West appeals to Mark and he’s delighted he chose to move to Roscommon to start a new chapter in his life.
“We have a young family now so it’s important that I don’t spend my evenings stuck in traffic. I have a 30-minute commute to work every morning which is nothing. It’s easy to raise children here as well with the availability and cost of childcare as well as having plenty of places to go on the weekends with the kids like Lough Key Forest Park. I also play golf and found it easy to find great courses at good value around the North West, so overall I would say it’s been a really great transition for me and my family”
