Technical Manager- Laboratory

My client is a global organisation and is industry leaders in food microbiology testing. They have just made a presence in Ireland and are now looking for a Senior Technical Manager with a strong background in Microbiology for the Newbridge facility.

Laboratory Technical Manager responsibilities:

• Provides technical guidance to all company functions including laboratory operations, client service, sales, marketing, technical services, purchasing, accounting, IT, and legal .

• Identify, implement and monitor critical elements of the laboratory quality systems and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency of practices and the issuance of accurate and reliable test results.  

• Ensure new methodology, technology and equipment is selected, implemented and validated so that all analytical activities are in compliance with quality, safety and productivity goals and are consistent.

• Assure laboratory management competency in root cause analysis of quality problems and identification of effective corrective actions. Assist laboratory management in the selection and training of personnel.

• Assure the quality system meets regulatory and accreditation requirements. 

• Provide guidance and technical expertise to clients and company personnel across the organization to understand and solve technical problems and issues. Assist clients in the interpretation of laboratory data and provide related consulting.  

• Develop, implement and maintain systems to ensure quick and reliable response to client inquiries and provide a level of service to the client that meets or exceeds their requirements.

• Frequent contact with the client to answer questions and provide technical consulting. 

• Build and maintain a pleasant working environment that promotes equality, staff development and good communication.

Technical Manager Requirements:

• BSc/MSc in Science related discipline

• Minimum of 5 years' experience within a microbiology laboratory environment

• A thorough knowledge of food science is necessary to apply knowledge while consulting with clients and to provide them with practical solutions to their problems.  

• A thorough knowledge of laboratory quality systems, Standard Operating Procedures, food testing methods, accreditation requirements and laboratory operating systems is required

• Strong personnel management skills, obtained from previous supervisory experience, are necessary for direct and indirect reporting relationships.
