We are currently seeking an experienced Senior HV Electrical Design Engineer to join a global leading engineering solutions company on a permanent basis, this role is based in Cork. As a Senior HV Electrical Design Engineer, you will take on the responsibility of being the technical lead for high-voltage projects, and to provide engineering solutions that cover all aspects of grid connection and customer-side installations, beginning with the initial concept and continuing through detailed design, construction, energization, and eventual handover
Overview of Main Responsibilities :
The position involves both directly performing and overseeing sub-consultants responsible for the following tasks:
Creating layout designs for primary substations.
Conducting calculations for busbar systems, considering thermal and mechanical loads.
Developing secondary designs, which includes preparing schematics for control and protection.
Determining the sizing and specifications of auxiliary AC and DC systems.
Conducting protection coordination studies.
Designing lightning protection, protective shielding, and earthing systems.
Overseeing factory and site acceptance testing as a witness.
Managing interface engineering activities with TSO/DSO (Transmission System Operator/Distribution System Operator).
Specifying and procuring major electrical equipment.
Conducting design reviews of work completed by other engineers within the team
What the ideal Senior HV Electrical Design Engineer looks like:
A primary degree in Electrical Engineering is not a pre-requisite but is desirable.
3 years similar experience is desirable.
Previous experience with MV/HV design, HV substation and underground cable design is desirable.
Previous experience with grid connections / renewable energy / airfield works is an advantage.
Strong IT skills with Microsoft Office packages, including diagnostic skills, and familiarity with Auto-CAD and ePlan P8 or similar is preferred.
