Senior Human Resource Partner required for The Brothers of Charity West

The Senior Human Resource Partner is a senior member of the HR team and provides a Human Resources service to all managers and staff working within the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland West Region. This post will initially support the services in the Galway geographical area. 


  • Assist in the management of human resources/employee relations in the Services and in the delivery of an effective HR function in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Oversee the effective implementation of all HR and relevant Organisational Policies.
  • Take a key role in developing and fostering positive employee relations in the Services by providing advice and guidance to all line managers and employees on matters related to Human Resource policies, procedures and terms and conditions of employment.
  • Provide advice and assistance in the resolution of disputes.
  • Empower managers through mentoring, coaching and practical advice to support their development and management of their staff teams.
  • Provide line managers with advice and assistance with regard to changes in work practices.
  • Explore with management a range of possible approaches to an issue, identifying relative merits and potential risks of each approach.
  • Prepare documentation/submissions and represent the Services at meetings with Third Parties including Trade Union meetings.
  • Ensure that the recruitment process, the issuing of contracts of employment and the terms and conditions of employment meet all relevant employment legislation, relevant national HSE policies, HIQA regulations and the policies and procedures of the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland.
  • Work closely with Managers/Heads of Departments to develop and maintain an effective workforce planning system. 
  • Assist in the management of the Trust in Care process, investigations etc. and liaise with Mangers/Heads of Departments and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with trade union and professional representative organisations.
  • Assist in leading the HR Team in identifying improvements and initiatives to the service in line with best practice.
  • Promote a culture of dignity at work, diversity, and equality.
  • Maintain appropriate records and provide statistical information as required across a wide range of areas including requests from external agencies such as the HSE, in a timely manner.
  • Assist in promoting good attendance management in promoting an awareness of attendance management and work with Managers in supporting employee’s to maximise their attendance.
  • Work in partnership with the Occupational Health Service to ensure that the Services remain strongly committed to supporting employee wellbeing and protecting employees from factors adverse to health through reducing risks and promoting safe work practices.
  • Liaise with the Pension Shared Services in the management of the NHASS and SPSPS pension schemes.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate monitoring, control and recording arrangements to ensure that all contractual and statutory obligations are fulfilled.
  • Provide information in line with the Services obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 2014 and Data Protection Act 2018 keeping abreast of current legislation and best practice.
  • Develop and maintain the human resources and other management information Systems to support HR requirements and operational effectiveness.


  • A relevant third level professional qualification or membership of CIPD
  • A minimum of five years relevant generalist HR experience in a multi team environment.
  • Extensive experience in recruitment and retention, employee relations including a detailed knowledge of grievance, disciplinary and collective bargaining procedures ideally in a multi union environment together with an up to date knowledge of employment law.
  • Relevant experience in the public service/healthcare service is highly desirable.
  • Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, managerial, team-working, communication, negotiation/persuasion, strong IT and organisational skills.
