Senior EHS Advisor

DESCRIPTION

My client, a well-established company within the construction/steel industry are now recruiting an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join their existing experienced team. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with good knowledge of health and safety operating systems and legislation.

This role will support updating company policies, translate those policies into working processes and ensure all legislative, corporate and industry requirements are met. Applicants must be capable of the following:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Managing Health and Safety daily for both the company and its sub-contractors.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety safe operating procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and reviewed, updated and communicated to all employees.
  • Attend Whiteboard meetings
  • Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and activities taking place.

  • Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, and daily/ weekly inspections are being carried out.
  • Conduct risk assessments, review and update existing risk assessments.
  • Deliver inductions and other trainings if required.
  • Liaise with the company safety team to continuously improve the company safety system.
  • Support any investigations into near misses, accidents, identify root causes and implement changes to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Generate monthly performance reports on EH&S KPI’s.
  • Maintain a watch on all EH&S legislation changes and assess implications for the company.
  • Carry out safety inspections and audits as necessary.
  • Ensure all contractors are managed according to The Client EH&S requirements.
  • Check and sign off SPA’s daily – amend occasionally to include additional tasks.
  • Site inductions when required.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings & look ahead meetings on site.
  • Safety walk with Client and review findings on site.
  • Weekly site audits.
  • Populate plant register- check new machinery when it arrives on site- ensure GA1’s are valid and in date; ensure check sheet is available for operative, and complete paperwork.
  • Staff supervision
  • Weekly Safety Report to be issued weekly
  • Ensure all GA certs and statutory documents are up to date.
  • Toolbox talks- as frequently as needed.
  • Risk Assessments, Method Statements for the company – review RAMS issued by sub-contractors.
  • Updating of H & S documents.

Essential Criteria

3rd Level Qualification

At least 5 years EHS officer experience with good knowledge of H&S Legislation

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Good IT skills including Microsoft office

Desirable Criteria

Experience in the manufacturing/Construction industry – previous experience with Structural Steel would be a distinct advantage

Experience of carrying out audits

Manual Handling/ Abrasive Wheel train the trainer/Working at heights

Previous ‘Lean’ experience
