Job Title: Senior Environmental Scientist
Location: 
Remote (with Site Visits)
Our client, one of Ireland's leading building consultancies, is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist to join their Environmental Team in a key leadership role. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across geo-environmental, hydrogeological, contaminated land, and water-related projects while supporting team growth and client development.
This role involves managing complex environmental investigations, mentoring staff, maintaining client relationships, and ensuring compliance with Irish and EU environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead geo-environmental, hydrogeological, contaminated land, and groundwater projects, ensuring technically robust and compliant solutions.
  • Manage site-specific risk assessments, groundwater investigations, abstraction studies, and remediation strategies for development and brownfield sites.
  • Oversee project delivery, technical quality, resourcing, budgets, and programme management.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, modelling outputs, and regulatory submissions.
  • Lead groundwater abstraction feasibility studies, pumping tests, and water quality assessments.
  • Coordinate and supervise field investigations, including trial wells and groundwater sampling.
  • Support abstraction licence applications and environmental compliance documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Irish and EU environmental legislation, EIA processes, and industry standards.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level staff through technical guidance and quality assurance.
  • Collaborate with ecologists, engineers, and planners to deliver integrated environmental solutions.
  • Develop strong client and stakeholder relationships while supporting business growth and strategic development of the Environmental team.
Key Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, Environmental Science, Geochemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Hydrogeology qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Significant experience in environmental consultancy or a related sector in a senior technical leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing complex environmental projects, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong expertise in groundwater investigations, contaminated land assessment, and geo-environmental risk assessment.
  • Experience with data analysis, conceptual modelling, groundwater interpretation, and GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Strong understanding of Irish and EU environmental legislation and EIA processes.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills with strong commercial awareness and commitment to technical excellence.
