  • This position is primarily located at our Southern Region office in Cork. Regular attendance at meetings and events outside Cork is a crucial part of the role. The successful candidate will report to the Director of the Southern Region and collaborate within a small team to provide expert advice and support to member organizations. This role demands strong organizational skills and a dedicated commitment to addressing the needs of our members. Experience in the construction industry or a related sector is highly advantageous.

Overview of responsibilities (full job spec available on request):

  • Assist individual members with issues and provide advice on procurement, tendering and contractual matters, health & safety, industrial relations/human resources, planning and development, and environmental sustainability and governance.
  • Prepare submissions and reports for County Development Plans, Capital Works Programmes (e.g., Uisce Eireann, ESB, National Development Plan), and Development Contribution Schemes/Taking in Charge policies.
  • Organize and attend branch meetings, breakfast briefings, networking dinners, and conferences within the region.
  • Manage the branch’s bank accounts, including handling payments and preparing annual statements.
  • Represent the compnay’s interests in the region, ensuring its views are acknowledged and understood by various stakeholders, including local authorities, local TDs, educational institutions, and chambers of commerce.
  • Ensure the Southern Region is represented on relevant committees, such as the national subcommittees, local authorities’ strategic policy committees, and regional skills forums.
  • Work closely with members and branch committees, providing leadership and direction within the Southern region.
  • Identify issues confronting members and develop policies and responses to address them.
  • Plan and coordinate with colleagues in the membership department to grow membership numbers and strengthen existing relationships.
  • Provide assistance to the Director across various policy and committee areas as needed.

What the ideal candidate looks like:

  • Ideally, candidates should have a relevant degree in a related discipline with strengths in representation, negotiation, and administration.
  • Experience in the construction industry or a related sector is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with current construction issues and the needs of construction companies.
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive, and manage tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Outstanding organizational capabilities and a strong commitment to serving the needs of members.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with members, industry professionals, and public authorities.
  • Must possess a full, clean driver’s license and ideally have their own car, or regular access to one.
