Project Engineer

Are you a technically strong Project Engineer looking to take ownership of complex, high-impact infrastructure projects? This is an exciting opportunity to join a critical utilities environment where you’ll play a key role in delivering essential water and wastewater projects that directly support communities and industry.

The Opportunity

You will be at the centre of project delivery—leading engineering input from concept through to construction—working across multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, operational setting. With a strong focus on brownfield projects, this role requires sharp planning, coordination, and communication skills to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time execution.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll combine technical expertise with project leadership, influencing both design and operational outcomes.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project engineering activities including design input, tendering, and technical evaluation
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation: reports, drawings, calculations, and specifications
  • Develop and manage project budgets and detailed, resource-loaded programmes
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery
  • Supervise contractors and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and programme requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and respond to client and stakeholder queries
  • Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Plan and execute works within live operational environments, minimising disruption
  • Identify and prioritise capital maintenance projects based on risk and criticality
  • Support maintenance operations through contractor and SLA management

Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in project engineering within utilities, infrastructure, or a related sector
  • Strong understanding of engineering design—from feasibility through to construction stage
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary environments (civil, mechanical, electrical, process)
  • Excellent project planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to assess risk, prioritise effectively, and manage competing demands
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a drive to add value

Desirable:

  • Experience working in structured project environments (e.g. PRINCE2 or PMP)
  • Background in brownfield or live operational project delivery

Why Apply?

  • Work on essential infrastructure projects with real-world impact
  • Gain exposure to complex, multidisciplinary engineering challenges
  • Be part of a collaborative environment where your expertise is valued
  • Opportunity to shape and improve operational and maintenance strategies
