Operations Manager

The Operations Manager leads and organises the day-to-day running of the microbiology laboratory from sample receipt to the final report. As the Operations Manager you are responsible for the high performance of the team and ensure that established goals and timeframes are met.

Operations Manager Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day operations management of a team of managers and supervisors.
  • Build and sustain employee engagement by creating a culture of efficient execution and an environment in which individuals and teams can excel and continuously improve
  • Focused on quality and lean management 
  • Maximize the success rate by instituting programs to minimize human error, mechanical failure, contaminations, and procedural errors.
  • Support strategic plans for process and lab improvements in order to increase efficiency and drive down costs.
  • Work with Senior Management on complex problems covering functional areas of the business
  • A balance between focusing on functional strategy while still maintaining operational activities, clearly defining policies and operational procedures and resolving problems that fall outside of the day to day situations while checking that budgets, goals and performance standards are set and attained
  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional projects to achieve established corporate objectives Liaising with the management to ensure that day to day quality system requirements were being adhered to in all areas
  • Ensuring that agreed quality and safety systems were continually adhered to 
  • Daily contact with the laboratory team and the other departments

Operations Manager requirements:

  • 5 years + of experience within a laboratory or from a Food environment.  
  • Degree in Business, Lean Management, and/or other related science.
  • Solid leadership and communication skills for creating interactive relationships with the teams, building plans and processes, setting deadlines, and steering projects to completion

  • Problem-solving skills
