Purpose of the Role
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management and smooth running of the business. The successful candidate will oversee staff, ensure operational efficiency, support business growth, and provide regular reporting and recommendations to the Managing Director.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the business to ensure efficiency and productivity.
- Develop and implement operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Monitor business performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and health & safety requirements.
- Coordinate resources effectively to meet operational and customer service objectives.
- Lead, motivate, and manage employees across the business.
- Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
- Manage staff scheduling, attendance, and performance issues.
- Foster a positive and productive working environment.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of employees.
- Manage HR processes and employee relations matters..
- Work closely with the accounts function to monitor company performance.
- Review operational budgets and expenditure.
- Assist with cost control initiatives and identify opportunities for savings.
- Monitor invoicing, purchasing, and financial reporting processes.
- Provide operational input to support financial planning and decision-making.
- Prepare regular operational reports for the Managing Director.
- Analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) and business metrics.
- Recommend improvements to processes, systems, and resource allocation.
- Support the implementation of strategic business objectives.
- Proven experience in an Operations Manager, Business Manager, or similar leadership role.
- Experience managing and developing staff.
- Strong understanding of Human Resources practices and employment legislation.
- Good understanding of accounts, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business management systems.
- Knowledge or experience within the transport, logistics, or haulage industry would be an advantage.
- Experience implementing operational improvements and business processes.
