This role involves carrying out maintenance activities on national, regional, and local road networks, operating a range of vehicles and equipment, and ensuring safe, efficient day-to-day road operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive a variety of road maintenance vehicles, including winter service/gritting vehicles.
- Perform maintenance tasks such as grass and hedge cutting, small drainage repairs, gully cleaning, litter picking, boundary and safety fence repairs, and minor surfacing or civil works.
- Install and operate traffic management systems on high-speed roads.
- Complete required paperwork and record sheets accurately.
- Follow all health & safety procedures and promote safe working practices.
- Carry out “watchman” duties by reporting issues on the network.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and the public when needed.
- Support emergency services during incident response.
- Perform additional duties appropriate to the role as required.
Skills & Requirements
- Full HGV driving licence.
- Relevant CSCS accreditation.
- Certification in Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Roadworks and Traffic Management on High-Speed Roads.
- Flexibility to work across a range of tasks and environments.
- Ability to participate in standby rotas, providing 24/7 emergency cover.
- Physically able to carry out manual duties.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
