Health and Safety Officer

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join a newly set up distribution facility in Cork. This permanent opportunity is with a well-recognised international retail organisation that is going through exponential growth.

The H&S Officer will work as part of the project management team with the implementation of H&S management systems at a newly acquired logistics facility:

Overview of Main Responsibilities (full job description available on request):

  • To continually identify areas for Health & Safety improvement, implement and co-ordinate risk management programmes, and work with colleagues to design, deliver and embed ‘fit for purpose’ core safety processes.

  • To provide support with data protection audits and training where required.

  • Keep up to date with new and amended Health & Safety legislation & approved code of practice.

  • Create, develop and implement suitable Safe Working Methods (SWMs).

  • Developing and maintaining a safe working environment and safe systems of work.

  • Completion of workplace Health, Safety, and Welfare audits/inspection programmes.

  • Assist, advise and provide training for effective investigations into accidents and incidents.

  • Actively participate, maintain and provide information, advice, and training in the risk assessment programme.

  • Assist with the documentation of the Health & Safety Management System.

  • Promoting Health & Safety awareness and improved risk control in the workplace through the preparation of internal safety training programmes.

  • Processing Health & Safety training records, legal documentation, and document control within the Health & Safety Department.

  • Advise on best practice methods including the control of Contractors e.g. Method Statement & Risk Assessments (RAMS) submission reviews.

  • Liaise with all retail colleagues providing advice and assistance with all Health, Safety & Welfare related matters.

What the ideal candidate looks like:

  • Nebosh National General Certificate qualified or equivalent.

  • An understanding of a range of Warehouse vehicles and their capabilities/limitations including:

    • Reach trucks

    • Counterbalance vehicles

    • Low-level order pick vehicles

    • Mobile elevated work platforms –(MEWPs) e.g. cherry pickers/scissor lifts

    • Heavy goods vehicle (HGV) / trailer safety

  • Fire alarm and emergency lighting systems

  • Asbestos & Legionella awareness

  • Basic engineering and electrical safety.

  • Experience working in a warehouse/manufacturing – or high-risk environment.

  • Hands-on risk assessment experience and risk management programmes.

  • Hands-on investigation experience.

  • A general understanding of Distribution Centre operations and associated hazards and risks.

  • Hold a clean Irish Driving License.
