There is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative, multinational Technology/Electronics company as an Electrical Hardware Engineer on a permanent basis. The company's Irish facility is located in North Cork and they are offering flexible working solutions for the right candidate.


About the role

The Electrical Hardware Engineer is responsible to develop hardware that meets the customer expectations and the required product performance. They will create the hardware requirements, designs and simulates circuits and brings it all together on a PWB. Afterward, they will test and tune the hardware for optimal performance and supports the production team to create production-relevant documents. This role would suit candidates that have strong PWB schematic design skills and has experience working with low-power devices. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience and will have the capabilities to manage all aspects of the hardware design and engineering processes from plans to completion.


Key Responsibilities

Hardware Design

  • Support System Engineer to create System Requirements
  • Create Hardware Requirement Specification based on the System Requirements
  • Estimate design effort as input for the overall project planning
  • Design and simulate electrical circuits based on the Hardware Requirements
  • Select, design and simulate antennas for radio modules
  • Design block diagram, schematic, and PCB based on the System and circuit design
  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Team to fit the PCB and the enclosure
  • Create design documents that summarize and explain the design decisions
  • Collaborate with the Production Team to create production relevant documents, like DFMEA, Gerber files and BOM
  • Coordinate the production of sample PCBs with local suppliers
  • Optimize the design for the best performance, f.e. by tuning components for antennas, filters, etc.

Hardware Testing

  • Create Hardware Test Specification based on the Hardware Requirements
  • Estimate testing effort as input for the overall project planning
  • Create Firmware Specification for firmware that is needed for hardware tests
  • The high-level design of test benches for complex or reoccurring tests as input for the Test Team
  • Conduct hands-on test preparation, execution, evaluation, as well as write complete test procedures & reports
  • Conduct pre-tests for certification
  • Conduct passive and active measurements of antennas

Key Skill Requirements

  • Detailed knowledge of circuit design, especially high-speed applications, filters, sensors, and power supply for battery-powered devices
  • Good experience in schematic design and EMC conformance PCB design and design tools
  • Experience in circuit simulation and simulation tools
  • Experience in antenna and electromagnetic design and tools
  • Knowledge about batteries, especially primary cells for long lifetime devices
  • Basic knowledge in quality management and documents.
  • Experience in PCB soldering of small components.
  • Willingness to travel to support testing at customer location
  • µC programming skills are a bonus
  • Level 8 Engineering Degree
