General Manager

Our client based in Galway is currently recruiting for a General Manager with senior management experience in the MARINE industry ideally as Master and/or Chief Engineer. Broad maritime industry experience

The General Manager, as the key client contact is responsible for the day-to-day and long-term operational, safety & maintenance management of the Irish personnel and fleet of vessels.

Lead and develop the local team to achieve “Global Maritime Excellence”.

 

Key responsibilities:

Operational and Technical Management:

  •  Ensure fleet vessels are fit for purpose and fully operational to meet contractual obligations and customer requirements.
  • Ensure that shore and sea-based employees, as applications are available and qualified to meet operational, contractual obligations, and customer requirements.
  • Developing vessel programs to ensure the use of individual assets is optimised to gain efficiencies in crewing and maintenance.

Financial Management:  

  • Authorisation of expenses within client authority limits.
  • Monitoring and reporting of financial variances against budgets
  • Manage costs within budgets and continuously implement efficiency improvements.

Leadership and Performance Management: 

  • Lead and manage subordinate staff to ensure business goals are achieved and services are provided effectively and on time.
  • Develop performance direction and identify training and development needs.
  • Regularly monitor and assess the performance of subordinate staff and provide constructive feedback with the aim to improve job performance.

Resource and Staff Management:

  • Ensure fleet is manned in accordance with statutory, Class, Company, and client requirements.
  • Ensure personnel matters, including industrial relations are resolved and effective relationships are built between management and staff.
  • Oversee that leave liabilities are managed to acceptable levels.
  • Oversee recruitment of staff.

HSSEQ: 

  • Emergency Response and Business Continuity Plans Risk Management
  • Control of Work processes including Permit to Work, Lockout/Tag Out, etc.
  • Safety Management Systems with reviews as appropriate
  • Take corrective action to remedy safety hazards or risks and restore a safe working environment.

 Requirements:

  • Third-level degree minimum with ideal experience in senior sea-going positions as Master and/or Chief Engineer
  • Significant senior management experience in the Marine Industry
  • Substantial experience in the management of vessels and personnel, including areas of operations, technical, 
  • budget development and compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in Client Management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality and Safety Management systems, particularly those related to the shipping 
  • industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software applications
  • Broad maritime industry experience
  • Well-developed leadership and management skills
  • Well-developed negotiation and presentation skills at all levels
  • Sound financial management skills
  • Familiar with local culture and experience with working in an international company, with a multi-national workforce
