Job Title: Ecologist

Location: Dublin - position can be worked on a remote basis with just 1 day week travel to Dublin.The role is primarily desk-based during the winter period, with site visits increasing to approximately one to max two days per week in the summer, depending on survey schedules.

We have an excellent opportunity for an Ecologist to join our partner, a leading environmental consultancy working across ecology, land management, and data science to support improved biodiversity outcomes.

They specialise in ecological assessment and enhancement for public and private sites across a range of land uses. Their services include ecological baseline assessments, biodiversity management planning, monitoring, and the development of technology-led tools to support ecological work. The ideal candidate for this role would be someone considering going freelance or someone who wants to work on biodiversity enhancement projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver ecological projects from scoping through to final reporting.
  • Design, undertake, and supervise habitat and species surveys in line with best practice and current guidance.
  • Produce high-quality ecological reports, including baseline assessments, habitat evaluations, and biodiversity enhancement plans.
  • Interpret ecological data to support evidence-led decision-making and land management.
  • Liaise directly with clients and project partners in a clear and professional manner.
  • Provide expert ecological input and quality assurance across a range of projects.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of methods, templates, and internal standards.
  • Mentor and support junior team members as the team grows (where relevant).

Key Requirements

  • Degree (or higher) in Ecology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience working as a practising ecologist in Ireland.
  • Full membership (or eligibility) of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).
  • Strong field skills, particularly in habitat survey and assessment.
  • Competence in Irish and EU ecological policy, guidance, and wildlife legislation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple workstreams and projects.
  • Excellent written English with experience producing clear, well-structured technical reports.
  • Working knowledge of GIS mapping systems (QGIS / QField).
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork.
