Director of Operations - Galway

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Director of Operations to join a Galway medical device SME. This is a unique position which offers both technical and strategic exposure, along with room to influence and scope to grow. The company, who are part of a wider global group have just moved into commercialization stage with their product in Galway.


This position will be suited to candidates already working as a Director of Operations or alternatively a Senior Manager within Operations or Manufacturing who is looking to take the next step in their career.


This is a permanent position and will offer excellent package to the successful candidate.


A Day in the Life

  • Responsible for providing leadership, direction, and focus to the site operations to ensure operational excellence, structured growth, and long-term strategic management.
  • Directs, supervises and provides strong organisational leadership for Operations & Manufacturing Engineering teams consisting of direct reports and/or matrixed resources through providing focused technical guidance and leadership (e.g. facilities, IT, supply chain).
  • Development and execution of manufacturing strategies, footprint additions and/or consolidations, major product transfers, New Product Introductions (NPI) and all relevant manufacturing engineering.
  • Partners with other functional groups to define the product content/feature set and system requirements.
  • Ensure performance levels, budgets, skill set requirements, resources, expectations are clearly established and requirements met.
  • Reports project status and key issues to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate level of product testing and documentation throughout all phases of product lifecycle.  
  • In partnership with the General Manager & internal colleagues, plans and executes strategies for continuous improvement in methodologies, processes, procedures, and technologies.
  • Work closely with Regulatory, Product Development & Quality to support both new product development and sustaining projects/activities.

What you need:

  • Ideally Masters degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience
  • In depth knowledge of healthcare/medical device industry
  • A well-rounded engineering skillset is required to manage and multidisciplinary team
  • Medical Regulatory and Quality System experience & knowledge
  • Strong budgeting, project management and organizational management skills
