Collins McNicholas was invited by Geraldine Grady from the Irish Association of Supported Employment (IASE) to attend an open discussion on the “Open Door” project with IASE, (Irish Association for Supported Employment), and together with Pauline O’Dwyer, EmployAbility Galway. A selection of senior HR Professionals from key organisations in Galway attended this meeting to talk about the employment of people with disabilities and the possibilities of considering people with disabilities when they are recruiting. This meeting was held on Friday 31st January 2014 in the Clayton Hotel and was represented by Frankie Fields and Caroline Dowling.

Pauline O’Dwyer from EmployAbility Galway gave a very informative presentation, which provided a summary of the wonderful work their organisation does for people with disabilities who are seeking employment. Pauline explained they have a database of jobseekers from a wide range of educational and work backgrounds, some of these jobseekers have disabilities or people who are recovering from an accident or illness.

EmployAbility provides a professional and practical recruitment approach to help integrate employees with disabilities in to the workplace. There are a number of grants and supports available to employers who wish to include and integrate employees into their workforce. More information can be accessed on their website
