Technical Development Engineer – Permanent

Job Purpose: Provide process engineering support for existing and new processes in the Cork site to ensure that the site’s technical, quality and safety metrics are all achieved.

Be the engineering technical expert for assigned processes and equipment.

 

Accountability Scope of Responsibility:

  • Continuously develop engineering capability and knowledge of processes and equipment to drive a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Support the introduction of new technologies to improve processes in line with business requirements.
  • Support ongoing performance management of key measures of the production processes.
  • Provide technical and process engineering support for both wet end processes, product isolation and drying and product particle size reduction as required.
  • Support troubleshooting activities.
  • Manage the required engineering changes in ones area of responsibility.
  • Participate in rigorous technical risk assessments for plant changes/product introduction.
  • Contribute to the resolution of technical investigations on plant.
  • Support process and equipment validation activities on plant.
  • Support the completion of critical safety assessments for plant changes, process changes and new product introduction.
  • Work closely with the operations team on all aspects of production and production support including process start-up, routine production, and product change-over.
  • Actively participate to Technology Transfer process from R&D or other sites.
  • Support the completion of assessments of new business opportunities.
  • Provide technical support for Capital engineering projects relating to NCE’s, existing products, and major process re-development.
  • Perform duties in a compliant manner and behave in accordance with site SOP’s, EHS standards and guidelines and relevant legal requirements.

 

Decision Making Responsibility:

  • Engineering change controls, validation documentation and batch documentation.

 

Problem Solving:

  • The ability to solve problems is a key skill for this role.
  • The ability to use personal knowledge and expertise is essential.
  • An understanding of when to escalate issues and when to draw on the expertise of others is also required.
  • Effective use of problem solving tools such as RCA is a requirement.

 

Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Responsibilities/Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in a compliant manner and behave in accordance with site SOP’s, EHS standards and guidelines and relevant legal requirements.
  • Read and understand Standard Operation Procedures applicable to role.
  • Report all accidents, incidents and any EHS issues using the appropriate process /system to your line manager or, if required, the Occupational Health Advisor.
  • Maintain work area in an inspection ready state and clean as you go to maintain good safe housekeeping standards.
  • Be aware of the impact of your job activities on EHS issues.
  • Ensure all engineering changes made have safety considerations and best practices as core attributes.
  • Ensure Basis of Safety files are available and up to date for processes.

 

Quality Responsibilities/Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in a compliant manner and behave in accordance with our Quality Management System requirements.
  • Participate fully in our site’s quality initiatives and ensure that all relevant quality standards are adhered to.
  • Maintain GMP standards where appropriate to your role.
  • Read and understand relevant Standard Operating Procedures and Global Quality applicable to role.
  • Management Policies relevant to your job role.
  • Attend training and complete assessments as required.
  • Ensure Quality and GMP are at the forefront of changes proposed.
  • Ensure all technical changes are risk assessed.

 

Basic Education:

  • B.Eng in Chemical Engineering.

 

Preferred Education:

  • B. Eng. Higher degree or other post-graduate qualification in a related subject.
  • Green Belt qualification.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry or equivalent.
