Production Manager – Sligo

 

We require a competent Production Manager for a manufacturing plant in Sligo. As Production Manager you will manage the production facility and operations and meet business/customer requirements by continually improving manufacturing efficiencies, reducing costs and achieving all key operational performance objectives within a demanding and dynamic environment.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Establish production processes for all product lines and identify methods of improving efficiencies and cost effectiveness.

  • Ensure customer expectations for quality and delivery are met on time and in full.

  • Ensure effective implementation of BRC standards and compliance with safety, health and environmental legislation.

  • Adopt a hands on role in recruiting, training, managing, motivating and directing the production workforce.

  • Establish, implement and manage effective systems for the ordering of goods and raw materials, stock control and rotation that minimises stockholding quantities yet is suitably timed to ensure uninterrupted production of all the company’s product lines.

  • Manage the market demand and production volumes of the company’s product lines and draw up efficient production schedules according to sales forecasts.

  • Manage and oversee the maintenance and servicing of the production lines to minimise down time and maximise the efficiency and working life of all production equipment and machinery.

  • Devise a budgeted cyclical maintenance and servicing plan for the production lines to ensure their efficient and effective operation.

  • Control all spare parts for production machinery and equipment as necessary.

  • Set up working systems which minimise loss of packaging materials during the production process.

  • Support the Product Development team and assist in carrying out production trials.

  • Handle all production issues relating to new product launches.

  • Provide regular production information and performance reports.

  • Play an active role in senior management decision making and handle all disciplinary matters with respect to the production workforce in accordance with company policy, local labour laws and ethical policies.

  • Manage employment relations and consultation/negotiation processes with staff so as to implement, on an ongoing basis, best working practices and operational methods in order to maintain competitiveness.

 

 

People Management:

  • Lead out the LEAN culture throughout the department and business.

  • Lead, manage and motivate the QA team, coaching and encouraging people to achieve results which meet targets and objectives.

  • Motivate and develop all team members by setting, agreeing and reviewing individual and department objectives to encourage the achievement of goals.

  • Enable team to proactively develop continuous improvement techniques and implement these correctly.

  • Take the lead in creating a quality culture, ensuring that there is appropriate people capability in place at all times, that people are clear on their roles and responsibilities regarding food safety and quality systems, supported by a rigorous system of review, and adequate and appropriate monitoring systems and procedures.

  • Identify skills gaps and initiate training as appropriate.

  • Provide direction for all evening cleaning personnel, set standards and drive improvements.

  • Set challenging targets within the operation so as to continually improve in all areas such as Scheduling, Output, Preventative maintenance, Housekeeping, Quality Assurance, Work Methods, Waste, Safety etc.

  • Health & Safety – Ensure that the staff are working to safe standards and report hazards, near misses or accidents.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience in food production complying to strict quality procedures

  • Proven knowledge of managing stocks of pre-production raw materials and goods, stock rotation and control

  • Relevant degree in food production, food technology, food quality, engineering or equivalent.

  • Hands on experience in managing and supervising a busy production process and workforce

  • Experience with auditing and working knowledge of HACCP, BRC & ISO

  • Proven experience of the efficient and effective running of FMCG production

  • Ability to prepare production schedules and plan ordering cycles to ensure production volumes can be met without interruption as required.

  • Experience of planning and managing cyclical maintenance and servicing of production machinery and equipment.
