How like Santa are you? Take the Santa Personality Test!

How like Santa are you? Take the Santa Personality Test! With the Christmas celebrations about to begin in earnest, we here at Collins Mc Nicholas ask, how like Santa are you? As we discussed in an earlier blog post, psychometric assessments are very useful tools for employers and here at Collins McNicholas we can provide psychometric assessments to our clients through our HR Services team. We asked Santa to complete the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) for us, which examines a person’s personality type. Unsurprisingly, Santa’s results indicated that he was a Giver (ENFJ). ENFJ – The Giver  (Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging) Influential, loyal, reliable, and genuinely kind Passionate and firm in his ideals and principles Highly intuitive and reflective Warm, caring, generous and people focused Extremely organised Good communicator So, how like Santa are you? You can compare you personality type with Santa’s by using this link to a short (and free) Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment: http://www.personalityperfect.com/test/free-personality-test/ Ho ho ho! Happy Christmas from all at Collins...

25 Years in Business: Q&A with Collins McNicholas Co-founder, Colman Collins

Last month Collins McNicholas celebrated 25 years in business. The occasion was marked in style with events in Cork, Galway, Athlone and Sligo. After the celebrations had died down, Colman Collins, Co-founder of Collins McNicholas offered to give us his insights on how the recruitment industry has changed over the last 25 years, what the future holds for recruitment in Ireland, and how Collins McNicholas got started. Here are the highlights from our conversation:   What was the Recruitment & HR landscape like in 1990? The country was in a protracted recession in 1990 which didn’t begin to lift until 1993/1994. The amount of recruitment that was taking place was low and the amount of it that was being handled by recruitment agencies was lower still. There was more happening on the HR front and because Val and I both came from a HR background we were well positioned to deliver these HR services. In particular we got some good traction on the training front and delivered a broad ranging soft skills courses such as supervisory development, time management and presentation skills.   Why did you set up Collins McNicholas? I set it up for two reasons. Firstly, because there was no Galway based recruitment agency catering for the professional and executive end of the market, and some market research I had done a few years earlier had suggested that a professional Galway based recruitment company would be given a chance to prove itself. The second reason was a personal one, i.e. I wanted to stay in Galway and I felt my chances of doing that were greater if I...

Developers Brave the Galway Weather to Attend Google Developers Meeting

On Saturday, 14th November, ‘Google Developers Group (GDG) – Galway’ followed their successful launch, in the G Hotel, with another meeting in the Bank of Ireland Startlabs on Eyre Square. Inspiring coders starting out on their development journey and seasoned programmers alike braved the Galway weather to attend another successful GDG Galway session. Topics for the day included: an exciting Google Project Tango demo, a GitHub talk, and a Python programming workshop, along with FREE Domino’s pizza!!! First Up GDG Dublin Lead, Raphael Savina, demonstrated Googles latest high tech venture, Project Tango, a mobile device with the ability to navigate the physical world similar to how we do as humans. Project Tango brings a new kind of spatial perception to the Android device platform by adding advanced computer vision, image processing, and special vision sensors….I’m pretty sure this is the same technology used to create the T2000 in the Terminator movies. Next Up Lynda O’Leary of HP and Women in Technology Galway, gave an interesting talk about the use of GitHub and Open source within the industry. GitHub is a Web-based Git repository hosting service. It offers distributed revision control and source code management (SCM), and has become the largest host of source code in the world, ideal for budding coders who want work with a tech savvy community. Last Up To round the day off, Full Stack Developer and all round tech guru, Allen Thomas Varghese gave a Python workshop aimed at those who had previously not had any exposure to the language. This proved very popular to novice and experienced programmers alike. All in all, the second GDG in Galway turned out to be...

How Far Would You Go? We Ran 250km in Aid of Pieta House

Collins McNicholas completed a 250km run last Friday to raise money for Pieta House. This was our third year holding the fundraising event and it was a great success. We are delighted to be raising money for Pieta House who do really important work in communities across Ireland and who rely on donations to keep their charity running. The event was held in Athlone Institute of Technology’s wonderful in-door running track. Thankfully the photos were taken before the run when we were still looking fresh and enthusiastic; 250km later and the photos would have looked quite different!! What Pieta House Does Pieta House, the centre for the prevention of self-harm or suicide, provides a professional one-to-one therapeutic service for people who are experiencing suicidal ideation, people who have attempted suicide and people who are engaging in self-harm. The centre has grown to almost 180 therapists and administration staff, and in 2014 alone, over 5,000 people came through their doors suffering from suicidal ideation or engaging in self-harm. This service is provided free of charge and they rely on fundraising events to provide 90% of their income. They currently have nine centres in Ireland, four in Dublin, and one each in Limerick, Cork, Galway, Tipperary, and Kerry. One of their goals is to have a centre within 100km of every person in Ireland and they have identified three areas most in need of their service – the North West, the South East and the Midlands. View video of our 250km Challenge Run 2015 event here To find out more about Pieta House please visit their website: http://www.pieta.ie/  ...
