Mini-Fundraising Events in Aid of Pieta House

It has been a busy couple of weeks here at Collins McNicholas as we count down the days to our 250km Challenge in aid of Pieta House on Friday 28th November 2014 in Athlone. There are so many worthy causes to support but we decided to retain the partnership we had last year with Pieta House as our chosen charity. We were all genuinely inspired by our interaction with Pieta House last year and inspired by the thought that the money we raised went towards the opening of Pieta House in Tuam, Co. Galway. Last year we raised €5,000 and this year we are hoping to beat that amount!! In advance of our 250km Challenge, we have organised a number of mini fundraising events. Last week, our Galway office hosted a very successful Monster Table Quiz in An Pucan in Galway. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Quizmaster John Fahey, the management and staff at An Pucan, and all those who took part in the Quiz. A fun-filled evening was had by all! This morning our Athlone office held a Coffee Morning at their offices in the Inish Carraig Business Centre in Athlone. Thank you to everyone who came along and made the morning a huge success. The cakes were amazing, not to mention the hosts! Next week, on Tuesday 25th November, our Sligo office will also host a Coffee Morning in Chapters Coffee House in Sligo between 10am and 12pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, please tell your friends and colleagues and pencil it in your diaries –  an excellent selection of sweet treats are guaranteed! Our efforts to raise funds for Pieta House would not be possible without your support. We graciously thank you for all your donations and support so far. Please spread the good word and help us to beat our fundraising targets in advance of the 250km Challenge on 28th November 2014. The Summit, the Tip of Ireland’s Tech Revolution

Last week’s Dublin Web Summit, or ‘The Summit’ as it is now called, was a tremendous success. In just its fourth year, the three day event has grown to encompass 22,000 attendees. This includes 100 tech CEOs, 1,000 investors, 2,000 start-ups and 500 guest speakers, not to mention celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Bono, and Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley, to name a few. The event was reported on by as many as 800 tech journalists who covered all of the action at the RDS and its 200+ satellite events. With such an influx of people from across the tech world it was a great networking opportunity. I couldn’t believe the buzz around the lobby of the Herbert Hotel on the second day as I sat there having my morning coffee. It was like an epic version of speed dating with business cards. In a way the rapid growth and success of the Web Summit mirrors the remarkable expansion of the tech sector in Ireland. There has been over 17,500 jobs created in the last three years and there are now over 105,000 ICT professionals working in Ireland. Demand is expected to grow at 5% per year through to 2018, and a further 44,500 job openings will be created in the sector in the next four years. This represents an incredible opportunity for Irish people to create an exciting, challenging, and financially rewarding career in this dynamic industry. There are a range of skills in demand in the ICT sector and Ireland benefits from its involvement in many different types of activity. Everything from software engineers, to systems administrators,...

The Cupcake Challenge

On Thursday November 6th I had the pleasure of attending a wonderful event staged by the Shannon Chamber of Commerce. The Cupcake Decorating Challenge, which was held at the Inn at Dromoland, is part of a new venture by Shannon Chamber called ‘Showcasing Members’. It involves members opening their doors for events, showcasing what they do, and allowing attendees to take part and network. Rarely have I had as much fun at a business networking event. From start to finish it was a very high energy, interactive event. About 30 members met at 5.30pm at Dromoland and chatted for an hour prior to the event. We were then escorted to a separate room for the main event. The Pastry Chef from Dromoland Castle was on hand to give a demonstration of his excellent craftsmanship and decorating skills. The Chef then turned over the reins to us hacks and the fun began! While this was a fun event, there was no doubt that this was a competition! Once we were dressed in our aprons and chef hats, people were guarding their ideas and doing their best to produce the best possible cupcake. The level of creativity was very impressive for a largely inexperienced group of bakers. Once each team submitted their 4 best works, the fun of judging began, all the while being regaled by the excellent MC on the night .Winners were chosen and everyone left with a smile on their face. I would like to compliment the Inn at Dromoland for their food and hospitality. It was a great venue for a wonderful event. I would highly recommend this as...

250KM Challenge in Aid of Pieta House – 28th November 2014

Collins McNicholas Recruitment & HR Services Group is proud to be holding a 250Km charity run in aid of Pieta House on Friday 28th November at the Athlone Institute of Technology – Indoor Athletics Track. Staff of Collins McNicholas have pledged to walk and run the distance to raise vital funds for this worthy national charity. Pieta House is a suicide and self-harm crisis centre founded by psychologist Joan Freeman. It first opened its doors in Lucan, Co. Dublin in January 2006, and there are now six Pieta House centres in Ballyfermot, Mungret, Roscrea, Tuam, Bishopstown and Castleisland. They also have an outreach centre in Finglas. Pieta House provides a professional, face-to-face, free of charge therapeutic service for people in the acute stages of distress. The unique clinically-based model developed by Pieta House is used across all of its centres. Pieta House’s primary aim is to reduce suicide by helping people get through that critical phase when suicide becomes a plan rather than just an idea. Speaking on behalf of Collins McNicholas, Colman Collins, Managing Director said: ‘Collins McNicholas is honoured to continue its association with Pieta House for a second year. Pieta House is a charity that really resonates with people as it addresses what was until recently a huge unmet need in our society. Pieta House provide a service that is both caring and professional and a service which is wholly dependent on fund raising to maintain and grow the network of centres it has around Ireland. The ‘Darkness to Light’ event which Pieta House has been running for  a number of years has really captured the...
